Good morning! I’m reporting live from my favorite cozy chair while the snow pours down outside. Snow days on Mondays are the VERY BEST.

Anyway, it’s the middle of the month again, so I’m joining Heather to share my confessions. Here are a few of my latest hot messes:

February 2016 Confessions:

Remember napkin mom? Napkin mom forgot to sign up for ANYTHING for the school Valentine party last week. Napkin Mom = NOTHING Mom. #fail

I LOVE snow days, but I do not love playing in the snow. To me, snow days are about watching movies and taking naps and making soup. We have a strict rule here that we don’t go out until the snow stops coming down, and I might pray every time that the snow goes from my “coming down” to “gone” overnight.  (Go ahead and add “Un-Fun Mom” to my resume.)

I’ve been using the laundry room as my personal closet for at least six months now. Going down there to pick out my clothes for the day has just become a part of my regular morning routine. (In my defense, my actual closet is in Nora’s room, and it seems like she is sleeping in there every time I have a minute to put my laundry away.)

If you are a friend (or even, let’s be honest, a vague acquaintance) and you are about to have a baby, I will straight-up STALK your social media accounts (and even be the annoying person to text you) waiting for a baby announcement. I can’t help myself. #hereslookingatyouHeather

It is 9:30AM, and I’m already thinking about whether or not we will have school tomorrow. (What’s wrong with me?)

Happy Friday and happy Mid-Month!! Heather and I are back for the new year sharing our deepest, darkest secrets confessions on the 15th (or so) of every month. We’ve decided to cut out the link-up, but we’d still love to hear what cringe-worthy things you’ve done lately in the comments. So, without further adieu:

In addition to sporting a Clemson sweatshirt with dress pants to work on Monday myself, I literally forced Sam to wear his only Clemson shirt (an oversized t-shirt that he has been sleeping in for two years and has obvious stains on it – the fact that that’s all the Clemson gear he has is a confession in and of itself) to school. He might have cried when I told him that’s what he was wearing, and I made him do it anyway. (I, appropriately, paired it with oversized sweat pants; and he accessorized with a black eye courtesy of a table-incident at church on Sunday. He looked totally tough.)

Yesterday, the shirt I put on to wear to work was extremely static-y. I was running late (imagine that!), so I made the quick decision to spray my body with hair spray. (Where did that idea come from? Is it supposed to help with static? I don’t know!) For the record: It did NOT work, and my blouse had little wet mark stains ALL over it.

I don’t wash my face before bed. Like, ever.

Nora has been on an antibiotic for the last week for an ear infection. Giving her the medicine has been such a miserable ordeal that I have sincerely considered, at least once every day, just not giving her the medicine any more and taking my chances. What kind of mother considers that? #Ididitanyway #dontworry #almostdone

And there you have it. As hot-mess as ever.

It’s mid November already y’all! As usual, Heather and I are being brave and airing our confessions for all to see… Here’s what I’ve been up to this month:

– I’m really excited about Clemson being ranked #1 and having a shot at the National Championship; BUT, I don’t actually watch any of the games. I just use them as a good excuse to wear a sweatshirt all day and check Google for score updates on occasion.

– Nora eats A LOT of puffs. (She also eats a fair amount of fruits and vegetables, but she’s no where near the “three meals a day” the pediatrician recommended she be eating by the time she’s nine months. #tminusonemonth)

– I’ve been really bad lately about sending text messages to the wrong person. These have mostly been insignificant errors, but I might have sent one (intended for my sister) about my dad being “annoying” TO MY DAD. #sorrydad #hewasagoodsport

– The laundry room now functions as my closet. I have no real intention of changing this any time soon. (Who has time to hang things up?)

In the middle of each month, Heather and I pause to come clean about our mistakes, mishaps, and messes; laugh at ourselves; and admit that real life is not always rainbows and unicorns. Here’s my uncut crazy from October:

This still counts as mid-month, right?

– I sent this text to our neighbors on Tuesday night —

Basically, you are supposed to put the little ghost cut-out on your window indicating that you’ve already been “hit,” but I forgot.  Also, for the record, I was promptly corrected that it is called being “ghosted” not “booed” (which makes no sense to me), so I wasn’t even using the right terminology. #momfail #slackerneighbor *We DID find the owner of one of the gifts and were able to return it; we have the darn ghost on our door now; and Sam and I are making our own treat basket to deliver tonight. #funhater

– In case you couldn’t have guessed this from the above, Halloween is a big deal in our neighborhood. The city closes off our street and people literally come from all over the city to trick or treat there. As of today, we are one of very few houses (and probably the only one with young kids) not completely decorated for the occasion… Looks like I’ll be hitting up the spider web section at Walmart this weekend.

– Also, I eat Sam’s candy when he is asleep and pretend I have no idea what he is talking about when he asks about it the next day. #itisbetterforhishealth

– I think I might have mentioned here that I am taking a class at Virginia Tech this semester on Wednesday nights. Most weeks, Jeff’s parents have been watching the kids during that time so that he can go with me. It’s been a fun chance for us to catch up and have adult conversation on the car ride (about an hour each way), sometimes grab a meal together, etc., and I’m thankful to not have to drive home alone late at night after a long day. Anyway, the confession part of this is that Jeff almost always drops me off in front of my building and picks me up, on a college campus, in our family minivan. #coolcats #toocoolforschool #sorryforallthehashtagstoday #itsjustsofun

– A few weeks ago I was on the phone in the car (incidentally, sitting in my driveway, because that’s how I roll), and Nora started fussing. Without thinking about it, I reached behind me and grabbed the first thing I could find that would pacify her for a little bit – an empty water bottle. That’s right folks, I grabbed a piece of trash from the car trash bin and threw it at my baby, then allowed her to play with it until I was done with my phone call. (This kind-of reminds me of the time I used her to block a flying kick ball.)

Well, I’m feeling great about myself. 😉

It’s time for some mid-month confessions about my (crazy and messy) life as a mom / teacher / wife / etc.

But first, since it’s been a little while, here’s a recap about the idea behind the link-up:

Heather (from Notes from the Nelsens) and I started this in January as a spot on the internet for sharing some of the “non-highlight reel” of our real lives. (Read all of my Confessions posts here.) Our intention is that it would be fun, funny, and (maybe most importantly) encouraging to other women who feel like their life is less-than-perfect most days. There are certainly things I don’t confess here; but, honestly, I find that having a good laugh over life’s little mistakes really is good for me! I hope you will join us today (and on the 15th of every month) to make the best of our flaws, smile, and move on… We’re all in this together!

Here are my confessions:

– Sam started preschool on Wednesday of last week, and his teacher asked each family to make play-dough one month to use at school. I signed up for September to get it over with because I knew I would just forget later on. Anyway, that was on Wednesday and already close to the middle of the month. I planned to make it over the weekend, but that didn’t happen, and I sent a note to the teacher apologizing Monday and saying he would bring it Tuesday. Then, last night, at 8:45, I finally started to make the darn thing, and didn’t even have all the ingredients (even despite the fact that Jeff had asked me at least three times to check the pantry before he went to the store on Sunday). I ended up having to borrow salt from a neighbor and stay up way too late, but Sam DID take some pretty awesome (Clemson) orange play-dough to school today. #procrastinatorsunite #elementaryschoolisgoingtokillme #Iseriouslyconsideredsendinginstorebought

– In that same vein, it’s only the fourth week of school for my students, and I am already SO SO behind on grading etc. To be honest, I was already behind by the second week of school.

– I make actual dinners for my family no more than three times a week, usually only twice.

– I’m TERRIBLE at dressing a little girl. I’ve dreamed about this day since I was a little girl myself, and now it’s finally here, and I’m failing miserably. Boys are easy – top and bottom. I’ve got that down. Girls have tights, diaper covers, bows, leggings, dresses, shirts, jackets, etc. And don’t even get me started on fancy braids and stuff later on… I’m already so stressed out by it all! Nora mostly wears pajamas all day every day. I can’t figure out sizing for her clothes either, so on the off chance we do “dress up,” she’s usually wearing leggings that are too tight or dresses that swallow her.

– My evil* sister-in-law left a big container of Tollhouse cookie dough in our fridge on Saturday night, and I’ve been eating a scoop (or two) of it nearly every night since. #salmonella

*My sister-in-law is not actually evil at all; but, she did leave cookie dough in my fridge despite her full knowledge of my lack of willpower. 😉
