Fall is my favorite season, and fall clothes are the very best. Give me dark jeans, neutral ballet flats or boots, a striped tee, and a cardigan ALL THE DAYS. I love it!
Just for kicks today, here are some fall “basics” I’d love to add to my wardrobe this year…
(1) J.Crew Factory Sweater Blazer
This thing has been ALL over the internet lately, but I’m absolutely not above jumping on the bandwagon. I really like that it looks tailored and “put together,” but feels like a cozy sweater. Plus, my dad actually got one of these for my mom for her birthday last week, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it a little longer in person (at least on my 5’3″ mom) than it looks on the model.
(2) J.Crew Factory Cuffed Striped Boatneck Shirt
Basically, this has all the things I love in one shirt — boatneck, stripes, AND a fun detail at the cuffs. I feel like I’d reach for this one ALL the time.
I really think of black/white gingham as a neutral (right up there with leopard print), and I love the choker neckline and the slight puff to the sleeves on this one (plus, Loft always has such great sales… definitely wait for one!)
(4) Halogen Ruffle Sleeve Tunic
This looks PERFECT for pairing with leggings (thank you tunic length) on Saturdays!!!!
(5) Old Navy Twill Field Jacket
A jacket like this is PERFECT for fall layering (key when Mother Nature can’t make up her mind about the seasons or your school/office blast the a.c. year around). I just adore the “popped collar” look on this one, and the material looks so soft and worn. I actually already have a similar olive jacket (that I wear all the time), but I love the “Teak It Away” version too!
(6) Old Navy Gray High-Rise Jeans
I wrote a few weeks ago about my plans to buy ON high-rise jeans… Well, I did buy them, and I really like them! Now, I think I’m ready to add a little excitement to my jeans game with the “it” color for denim this year – gray. Apparently, they go with everything. (Anyone have gray jeans? Do you wear them a lot? Are they flattering on non-toothpicks? Speak truth to me.)
A perfect black dress for everything from work to date nights and beyond… I’m crazy about the simple cut and the gold zippers.
I’ve literally been wanting these for years, but have settled for a Target knock-off instead. This year, I really need to replace my old ones, and I might just splurge on the “real thing” (or ask for them for Christmas). I truly do wear riding boots SO often in the fall/winter (with jeans, dresses, etc.), and this look doesn’t seem to be going out of style anytime soon, so it feels like a pretty good investment…
Now, if I would just win the lottery! 😉
What’s on your fall “shopping list?”
Have a great weekend and… GO TIGERS!

I love the fun sleeves trend BUT how do you wear them layered under anything? I always have a cardigan with me because I tend to get cold and the fun sleeves just won’t work then 🙁 I am also a fan of the high rise skinnies/jeggings from ON! Finally as a 32 year old I’m realizing that if I’m going to wear a pair of shoes (like riding boots) at least twice a week to school aka be standing in them all day, that it’s ok to splurge. I say go for it!

I have these boots and highly recommend them! I basically teach in them all winter long. I’m 5’3″ with pretty normal legs (size 28) and I ended up needing the extra wide calve option. I like to wear my skinny jeans under them and needed the room. Just FYI!

i just ordered those boots (so i hope that’s an affiliate link i clicked on!!) i’ve needed new boots for maybe 4 years now and have been putting it off. but based on the above comment i might have to return for the extra-wide option (my calves are GIGANTIC). xoxo

I am looking for some good, high quality boots as well but am reluctant to try brown boots. I’m so used to black and gray/silver and so much of my wardrobe goes with that…
I just bought gray jeans though and love em!

Yes! to grey jeans. I have had my grey bootcut GAP jeans for years and am quite fond of them. I wear them with crisp white shirts, pinstripes, T’s,… I have a rosy-colored feminine blouse that I wear with the jeans and boots when I want to feel frou-frou
