When it comes to getting dressed in the summer (i.e. when I’m not working), my style is mostly casual and comfortable. I need to be able to get dressed quickly and keep up with my kids without sweating to death or flashing people. Are you with me?!? Clearly, I’m no fashionista, but I do love clothes and shopping; and I *try* to keep up with at least some of the season’s trends. With that in mind, today I’m sharing five styles I’m wearing this summer with pictures and links to items actually in my closet (plus a few I *wish* were in my closet)…
< This post isn’t sponsored at all, but some of the links may be affiliate. See my sidebar for the full disclosure. >
(1) Basics
On an average day in the summer, you will find me in some variation of that first outfit — pull-on linen shorts and a cotton v-neck tee. I bought three pairs of these shorts last summer from Old Navy (similar here and here), and I own about 10 v-neck tees (the one shown above is my favorite from Gap, but I also love this style from J.Crew).
(2) One Shoulder & Off the Shoulder
I honestly don’t have that many tops in these styles, but I really love them. I’m a bit self-conscious about my arms, so this seems like a great option for still being stylish and cool, but not sleeveless. The top shown above is from J.Crew Factory (dress version on sale here), and I also have this fun dress from Anthropologie. (A few more tops I love: basic chambray, black/white gingham, striped swing top, floral eyelet, eyelet one shoulder, and neon one shoulder.)
(3) Shift & Swing Dresses
This style has long been a favorite of mine, and I’m currently loving these light-weight patterned dresses from Crown & Ivy at Belk (there are SO many styles, and they’re currently BOGO!!).I also have several basic shift dresses from Old Navy and J.Crew Factory that I can throw on as a beach/pool cover-up, to run errands, or dress up to go out. These are probably the most versatile things in my closet, so I totally get my money’s worth!
(4) Ruffles / Bell-Sleeves / Peplum
These details are “so in” this summer, and I’m not complaining!! Ruffles are perfect for hiding problem areas (like the “mom pooch”) and look cute too! The shirt pictured with white jeans above is from last year at Old Navy (similar), but this style is everywhere! (My favorite ruffle/bell-sleeve tee from J.Crew, the bell-sleeve dress I wear all the time, and the dress I just ordered for a wedding next month -in navy- + three more I’m eyeing: dotted, gingham bib, and peplum, bell-sleeve floral.)
(5) Tassels & Pom Poms
Last but not least, I – like everyone else – can’t get enough tassels and pom poms!!! I’ve been accessorizing with fun earrings (like these from BaubleBar for Target – shown above) and necklaces (the one pictured is my mom’s from the Charleston market last year, but here’s a similar one) all the time, and I love the little bit of flair it gives my otherwise very basic outfits. (P.S. Great price on these earrings and this great necklace from J.Crew Factory.)
And there you have it. What are you wearing this summer?!? What trends do you love? Just can’t get into? Where are your favorite places to shop?!?!
Have a great weekend friends!
