One thing I seem to be hyper-aware of as I think about dressing postpartum this time around is the ability to nurse easily and discreetly while also feeling comfortable and cute in my clothes (and hiding my belly as much as possible). Here are a few stylish nursing options I found online at ASOS.com this week:
ASOS Mama.licious Nursing Space Dye Top. Also comes in black.
ASOS Maternity Nursing T-Shirt with Double Layer. Also in black, light pink, and a very thin gray stripe.
ASOS Maternity Nursing Maxi Dress with Double Layer. Also in black (on sale right now) and navy (I think). There is also a shorter (“skater”) version in blue, fuchsia, and black/gray color block.
ASOS Maternity Nursing T-Shirt with Wrap Overlay. Similar to the first top but better for warmer temps. Also comes in navy.
I was super excited to find these options, but also a little concerned about the price (even the t-shirts are right around $50.00) and the fact that they are all considered “maternity” even though they are clearly designed for nursing (which, news flash, does not happen during pregnancy). I guess I understand the thought behind this design – if you are going to pay that much for a shirt you may as well be able to wear it for as long as possible – and they don’t look maternity to me, but I wonder how long I would actually be able to wear them without looking and feeling like I am pregnant. Anyway…
Does anyone have any experience buying anything in this line? Is it worth it? (I’m particularly drawn to the maxi dress – in black – right now since it is on sale and might be fun to wear to my sister’s bachelorette party just a few weeks after baby is born.) Thoughts?
*I also kind-of love this top from H&M for about half the price. It seems very discreet and versatile.
What was your favorite thing to wear when you were nursing? Where did you buy nursing-friendly clothes?
Happy “Bump” Day!

Dressing for nursing is TOUGH! Especially when you go back to work and have to dress for pumping ease, I was amazing at how many of teaching staples I could not wear because they were a pain to pump in.
Anyway.. nursing essentials.
The nursing tank…a MUST!
I love (and STILL wear) a nursing tank under a maxi dress! It is SO comfy.
Nursing tank + maxi dress + cardigan… perfect outfit. It is also a GREAT option for a going home outfit.

The double layer t and dress are really cute. A nirsing tank underneath a t works fine too, but it’s not too cute.

I just stayed half-naked while nursing and pumping. Is that not helpful :)?

That dress isn’t too bad of a price and would be super cute! I’m cheap so I bought maxi dresses from Old Navy that I could nurse in. They have v-neck ones, strapless, and button down ones that are perfect http://www.oldnavy.com/products/long-dresses-for-women.jsp. I personally don’t think the price of shirts is really worth it. You can wear whatever cute shirt you want with a nursing tank underneath and nurse pretty discretely. You can add a cute scarf for even more discreteness (is that even a word?!?) Nursing tanks from Target are my absolute FAVORITE. I wore one every single day for a year.

I’ll add that i LOVE the top from H&M and wish they made them in more colors…

I just wore a regular thin strapped long tank with adjustable straps under another shirt. The tanks are fitted enough that they aren’t bulky under another shirt and I can usually find them for around $3-$5. I find that a nursing tank isn’t very flattering or supportive beyond wearing around the house. Those long tanks will just pull down under my bra for pumping or nursing and then my belly is still covered.

i bought a nursing dress after mary virginia was born and i didn’t like it 🙁
i think button-up stuff is better. but i probably err on the not-so-discreet side. i barely use a nursing cover, even…i just try to find a private place.
but nursing stuff always seemed overpriced and poorly designed.

I wore sports bras and tops that were easy to roll up. I found nursing tops were more complicated for me. George likes to acrobats while he nurses so having the flaps or extra fabric was difficult. They always seemed to find a way back over my boob. So I had shirts that I could roll up and then roll the sports bra over them to hold them up. It’s not discreet, but I never nurse in public anyway. This is always how I approach my wardrobe with pumping too. This also seemed to save me money. I didn’t see the value in purchasing “nursing” garb when things I already had worked.
