I think I say this every year, but maybe 2015 will be the year I finally start wearing lipstick… Even better, maybe over the holidays? I don’t think this bump can handle much attention-seeking sparkle or flair this year; but, my lips? They might be the one thing on my body that hasn’t gotten bigger (of course) yet. 😉
Truth be told, I’m scared to death of lipstick. Once, my mom told me she would buy me a pair of sunglasses from a fancy department store if I let her put lipstick on me at the make-up counter and left it on all day. I let her because – sunglasses. But, that was pretty much the end of my relationship with lipstick.
I LOVE the way it looks on other people though – especially other people that happen to also have dark hair, fair skin, and, some of them, even freckles. I think there is something so classic and beautiful looking about a woman with very natural makeup and bright lips. Still though, it feels like such a big change to me – like people that know me would be all “whoa” if I all the sudden started wearing lipstick.
Maybe one day my circumstances will change and I’ll have a fresh start to reinvent myself as the woman who wears glasses (I might have been known to pray for some failed vision) and bright red lipstick…
Until then, here are some of my “inspiration photos” from Pinterest:
Do you wear bright red lipstick? Would you? I’d love to hear your tips for a very-hesitant beginner…

P.S. Do you follow me on Pinterest?! I’ve been using it a lot lately to record ideas for the holidays, for new baby, recipes, etc. etc. I’d love to have you join me there too!

You’re too funny. I DO love and wear lipstick.. daily. I even try to wear red, I have about 200 tubes of it, however, I feel like you.. every time I wear it, I feel like a little girl playing dress up. LORD KNOWS I’m not afraid of make up and wear PLENTY, daily.. but still, something about red terrifies me. Im so jealous of women that pull it off so flawlessly. Lets both wear it to all family Christmas parties this season 😉 we can be nervous together 😉

I feel the exact same way about lipstick!

I love a bright lip!! But having Millie has put a huge damper on my lipstick-wearing. If I put it on, it just comes off all over her face with the incessant kissing. So you should embrace it now, before you have a new baby that will require constant kissing. It’s actually one of my ‘perks’ for going back to work- while I’m at work, I can enjoy wearing lipstick!! Ha. The little things, right??

I feel the same way about lipstick and I rarely ever wear it. I’ll go for chapstick all day, but I don’t like the texture of lipgloss and I feel like a clown with bright lips. I guess I feel like I have pretty strong features anyway…. big eyes, big nose, full lips… so a bright lipstick makes me feel like a cartoon. I tend to stick with something that’s very “your lips but better.” Not too pink. Not too brown. Not too nude.
Lip colored lipstick.
Party animal over here.

Start with more of a neutral color (Viva Glam V from Mac is a good color.) It’s a baby step into lipstick to get used to the feel and reapplying it, but not too crazy out there. Then you go a little bolder, (I like O from Mac) until you’re ready for red! (Mac Red is BOLD. but fun!) Honestly, I love wearing bright lips but feel like everyone is staring at my when I do (small towns aren’t much for cutting edge fashion!) but I go with the “Fake it till you make it!” attitude and it usually works out for me 🙂

I feel the same way! That’s why, when I wear a color on my lips, I stick with Burt’s Bees lip shimmer. It feels like lip balm but with color. It helps me forget that I feel like I’m playing dress up!

I am an absolute makeup junkie and the consensus is correct. Start neutral. Bold colors are too much for a non-lipstick wearing person. I starting wearing Mac’s creme cup (its a nudey-pink). Loreal has the nudes collection and I would go with “julianne”. Disclaimer I am super fair skinned, brown hair and freckles. That should get you in your comfort zone. Good luck, lipstick is your friend!

I would LOVE to have the guts to wear bright red lipstick! But that’s rare for me. I’m an introvert and calling attention to myself is not something I love. However, I DO wear more neutral colors for lipstick. If you get a very hydrating type (I get mine from Avon), it goes on just as easy as lipgloss, and I think it looks a tad more professional.

I always feel like I’m trying too hard when I put on lipstick…like I’m standing in front of everyone and yelling, “LOOK AT ME.” While I don’t mind being funny and the center of attention, I just don’t want people to look too closely at me otherwise.
Weird? Probably.

I feel the same way! I am always thinking that color looks great on her, maybe I could do that. Then I buy it and regret it because I feel like a clown. It just feels weird. I also feel like I can’t move my lips because I am afraid it will end up on everything and smeared everywhere.
