If you ask me, dressing your body after having a baby is even harder than dressing when you are pregnant. At least when you are pregnant, you don’t have to hide your belly. Unfortunately, the three-month postpartum pooch just doesn’t have the same effect. Add to that the fact that your boobs are huge (and need to be easily accessible at all times), your skin is super pale (because your leisurely afternoons by the pool are LONG gone), and you have approximately 6.5 minutes to “get ready” every morning, and finding decent things to wear can be quite the challenge.
I’m definitely not an expert, but here are a few things that have been (mostly) working for me lately…
I bought both of these at the beginning of the summer (the top one was on clearance at my store for only $8) and they have been my “go to”s these last few weeks. They are slightly longer on me and I usually just wear them with flip flops. I love that they button up the front for nursing and are very light weight so I don’t sweat to death. They also work well dressed up (I add a belt to the second one and fun jewelry) or dressed down depending on the day’s activities (which, let’s be honest, usually require “dress down”).
I call these my “mom shorts,” but there’s no shame in my game… I have this pair and another in khaki and they are basically on rotation 5 out of 7 days a week. (P.S. They are only 19.99 and are Buy One Get One 50% right now – so I don’t feel too bad about buying the size up for “this season only.”)
Just like every other “mom-blogger” in America, I’m a big fan of the solid v-neck tee with chinos and (sometimes) a fun necklace. On occasion – when I’m really feeling wild – I throw in some stripes (of course) too.
My favorite is JCrew’s Layering Tee, but I have v-necks from Target, Old Navy, and JCPenney too. That second top is a tunic, and I have three of them in different colors. These were especially wonderful with (maternity) jeans in the spring right after Nora was born, but I like pairing them with white (maternity) jeans now or even long shorts if I want to break all the fashion rules. 😉
So, it’s not much, but neither is my wardrobe these days! What are you wearing lately?!?
